Dr. Steele is a professional performing artist who has also been fortunate enough to experience the magic of teaching at a variety of levels. Maintaining a balance between campus activities and professional engagements, Steele has the best of both worlds: the performing arts in education and the practical experience of the public arena.

Steele is also a Certified Mediator, and is conversant in many avenues of dispute resolution, negotiation and peacemaking. In the university world, he is the Head Coach of Principia College’s international championship teams in Mock Mediation—earning the 2016 International Intercollegiate Coach of the Year award. His education ranges from a B.S. in Speech and an M.A. degree in Performance Studies from Northwestern University, through a PhD in English—Shakespeare Studies from the Shakespeare Institute (University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, UK) in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.

Contributions to STEAMWonk are mainly focused on Arts, Education, Social Issues and Creative Narrative. Steele likes the concept of STEAMWonk as a bridge and a launchpad for ideas revolving around artistic approaches to scientific thinking, and scientific discipline enhancing the experience of the artist. The end result of much of his research centers on the nature of progress after the successful negotiation of appearance vs. reality.
